Administrators Rights, Port 80 Conflict

Postby bluedino » 03. October 2013 08:15

hi there!

please pardon me as well as I am new to this.

I encountered similar error message as JohnRussell for starting Apache.

2:25:15 PM [main] Initializing Control Panel
2:25:15 PM [main] Windows Version: Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit
2:25:15 PM [main] XAMPP Version: 1.8.2
2:25:15 PM [main] Control Panel Version: 3.2.1 [ Compiled: May 7th 2013 ]
2:25:15 PM [main] You are not running with administrator rights! This will work for
2:25:15 PM [main] most application stuff but whenever you do something with services
2:25:15 PM [main] there will be a security dialogue or things will break! So think
2:25:15 PM [main] about running this application with administrator rights!
2:25:15 PM [main] XAMPP Installation Directory: "c:\xampp\"
2:25:15 PM [main] Checking for prerequisites
2:25:15 PM [main] All prerequisites found
2:25:15 PM [main] Initializing Modules
2:25:15 PM [Apache] Problem detected!
2:25:15 PM [Apache] Port 80 in use by "Unable to open process" with PID 4!
2:25:15 PM [Apache] Apache WILL NOT start without the configured ports free!
2:25:15 PM [Apache] You need to uninstall/disable/reconfigure the blocking application
2:25:15 PM [Apache] or reconfigure Apache and the Control Panel to listen on a different port
2:25:15 PM [main] Starting Check-Timer
2:25:15 PM [main] Control Panel Ready

I have checked that I am running on administrator rights on my pc, so I would assume that my issue may lie with the following error message:

2:25:15 PM [Apache] Port 80 in use by "Unable to open process" with PID 4!

I have tried going to my Task Manager processes and find PID 4 but was unable to.

Appreciate if anyone could help me troubleshoot which step went wrong and how can I resolve this.

Thanks!

Logged in with an administrator account is not the same thing as running the program with administrator rights. Thank Microsoft and their UAC.

Hi Altrea,

Thanks for the link.

I've turned off the features for IIS in Task Manager and disabled Skype from using port 80.

However, I wasn't able to locate MSSQLSERVER in Task Manager to turn off the feature from running.

Is there any workaround to stop it from running?

Thanks!

Windows services window (Windows key + R => services.msc)?
