Administrators Rights, Port 80 Conflict

Postby JohnRussell » 17. September 2013 15:48

Hi,
I don't have much experience of programming in general.
I downloaded XAMPP in May 2013 and have been working quite happily until recently when it seemed to me there was a bug inMySQL, which I hoped to fix by uninstalling and reinstalling V1.8.3, which I have now done. However, Control Panel v3.2.1 now gives me: -

14:27:11 [main] Initializing Control Panel
14:27:11 [main] Windows Version: Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit
14:27:11 [main] XAMPP Version: 1.8.3
14:27:11 [main] Control Panel Version: 3.2.1 [ Compiled: May 7th 2013 ]
14:27:11 [main] You are not running with administrator rights! This will work for
14:27:11 [main] most application stuff but whenever you do something with services
14:27:11 [main] there will be a security dialogue or things will break! So think
14:27:11 [main] about running this application with administrator rights!
14:27:11 [main] XAMPP Installation Directory: "c:\xampp\"
14:27:11 [main] Checking for prerequisites
14:27:11 [main] All prerequisites found
14:27:11 [main] Initializing Modules
14:27:11 [Apache] Problem detected!
14:27:11 [Apache] Port 80 in use by "Unable to open process" with PID 2084!
14:27:11 [Apache] Apache WILL NOT start without the configured ports free!
14:27:11 [Apache] You need to uninstall/disable/reconfigure the blocking application
14:27:11 [Apache] or reconfigure Apache and the Control Panel to listen on a different port
14:27:11 [Apache] Problem detected!
14:27:11 [Apache] Port 443 in use by "Unable to open process" with PID 2084!
14:27:11 [Apache] Apache WILL NOT start without the configured ports free!
14:27:11 [Apache] You need to uninstall/disable/reconfigure the blocking application
14:27:11 [Apache] or reconfigure Apache and the Control Panel to listen on a different port
14:27:11 [main] Starting Check-Timer
14:27:11 [main] Control Panel Ready

I just want to get back to PHP and MySQL as quickly as possible. Any ideas, taking into account my relative lack of experience?

Thanks.

If you would run your XAMPP control panel with elevated administration rights (rightclick -> run as Administrator) you could resolve the PID your control panel is pointing to.
The other possibility would be to show the PID in your Task Managers processes tab and search PID 2084 by yourself.

best wishes,

Your thread would be even more helpful for others if you would tell us which program was blocking your ports and how you solved it :D

I don't know which program was blocking my ports, but I solved it as you suggested: "rightclick", etc. I didn't want to spend any more time on it because my main problem was as per my other post on this website, which reinstalling a contemporary version of XAMPP hasn't solved.
