Setting up email in xampp

Hi all

I have been and still are reading through the posts re setting up email with Xampp, however for one reason or another I can not get this to work.

Can I ask someone to post a noob proof guide on how to set-up and use email with Xampp please. That can then get stickied for everyone else to see.

hi, I have same problem , please help.
my server has valid ip, dns and i configure httpd.conf and php.ini.
in httpd.conf i configure mail master server name and ...
and in php.ini i configure the data about mail but i can not send any mail from my server.
when i mail a massage with php there is no error but anything has not seen in my yahoo account.
and when i mail with smtp after send i just see a white page.
