hansoff, you signed up for my service earlier today, I sent you an email, if you want to host your domain name I have given you and or point your .tk name to the domain i gave you it is all possible.
If you could confirm with your isp that you have a static ip that would be great. If not you can use dynamic dns. (
http://www.dnsart.com) It will work either way.
Give your webserver a static ip on your network. If your linksys is setup with the default ip address of 192.168.1.1 then give your webserver a static ip of 192.168.1.x x being anything but 1 or 254. For example 192.168.1.199. Set the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0 and for dns servers use 151.164.1.6 and 204.60.203.190. These are your isp's (sbcglobal.net) dns servers.
The next thing you have to do is to configure your linksys router. If you havent logged into it before the user name is admin with password admin. First off change the default password! Then go to the section called advanced. When in the advanced section you will have an option called Forwarding. Choose that option. You will have some columns that look something like this:
Service Port Range Protocol IP Address
80~80 Both 192.168.1.199
This will now allow outside users to see your webserver and website (or sites) if you have xampp setup correctly.
If you want to ftp content to your webserver from the outside it would look like this:
Service Port Range Protocol IP Address
20~20 Both 192.168.1.199
Service Port Range Protocol IP Address
21~21 Both 192.168.1.199
It is a good idea to use both ports 20 and 21 for ftp because sometimes the data stream sends a packet down the other port for confirmation. This is where people who dont have passive ftp would be screwed if you didnt open port 20 and 21.
Now if your buddy types in your ip he or she will see your website. If you are hosting your domain from
http://signup.megafps.com email
support@megafps.com and they will point your domain name to your ip address. If you do have a static ip you can host many websites on one computer. I have an old 333mhz celeron hosting over 20 websites and it runs as smooth as silk.
I hope this helps.
