XAMP 1.8.1.-VC9: mysql startet nicht

Hallo,
ich habe XAMP neu installiert; dabei gemäß Empfehlung nicht das Windows-Systemlaufwerk benutzt (win7.64 ultimate).

Apache vom Control-Panel gestartet. Mysql-Start gibt Fehlermeldung aus:

Die Datei mysql_error.log kann ich nur im Control-Panel einsehen (Warum steht diese nicht im Installationsverezichnis?):

Es wird ein "System-Fehler 87" angemerkt. Die angegebene URL "http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.5/en/operating-system-error-codes.html" bringt keine Hilfe.
Bei Microsoft finde ich hierzu unter
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms681382.aspx
folgende Fehlerbeschreibung:
"ERROR_INVALID_PARAMETER
87 (0x57)
The parameter is incorrect."

Dies hilft mir leider auch nicht weiter.

In der Windows-Ereignisanzeige finde ich folgenden Hinweis:
"Plugin 'FEDERATED' is disabled.
