Unable to start XAMPP [Solved]

Postby hansmoolman » 01. February 2013 16:00

Can anyone please help me with the installation of XAMPP?

I downloaded and installed XAMPP on Windows 8 (XAMPP version 1.8.1), but when I run it I get the following error http://imm.io/UOC4

I have changed Skype to listen on a different port as I read this was the main culrprit for this error, but still no luck.

Then I do netstat -o -n -a | findstr 0.0:80 to see that process 4 is listening. I open Task Manager to try and find and stop process 4 but no such PID number listed here. There are a bunch of processes with no PID and then the nearest PID starts at 388.

Does anyone have any solutions for me please?

Well as soon as I had posted this I found which process was blocking me.

I finally found the service that was taking away port 80 - it was W3SVC (World Wide Web Publishing Service) (group is "iissvcs")
