Restrict access for folders

Postby Ametz » 28. December 2012 16:25

Hello.

Under my htdocs folder i have a few folders that i use like /files where ppl can easily access files i want then to have.

But i also have folders like /minecraft that i don't want to be accessible with the web browser (so people can see and download those files in there)

I googled some on this and all i could understand is that it has something to do with the:
"apache\conf\httpd.conf" file.

But how and where do i add the "minecraft" folder in this file so no one can browse it?

#
# This is the main Apache HTTP server configuration file.  It contains the
# configuration directives that give the server its instructions.
# See <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2> for detailed information.
# In particular, see
# <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/mod/directives.html>
# for a discussion of each configuration directive.
#
# Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding
# what they do.  They're here only as hints or reminders.  If you are unsure
# consult the online docs. You have been warned.
#
# Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many
# of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the
# server will use that explicit path.  If the filenames do *not* begin
# with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "logs/foo.log"
# with ServerRoot set to "/XAMPP-Portable/apache" will be interpreted by the
# server as "/XAMPP-Portable/apache/logs/foo.log".
#
# NOTE: Where filenames are specified, you must use forward slashes
# instead of backslashes (e.g., "c:/apache" instead of "c:\apache").
# If a drive letter is omitted, the drive on which httpd.exe is located
# will be used by default.  It is recommended that you always supply
# an explicit drive letter in absolute paths to avoid confusion.

#
# ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
# configuration, error, and log files are kept.
#
# Do not add a slash at the end of the directory path.  If you point
# ServerRoot at a non-local disk, be sure to point the LockFile directive
# at a local disk.  If you wish to share the same ServerRoot for multiple
# httpd daemons, you will need to change at least LockFile and PidFile.
#
ServerRoot "/XAMPP-Portable/apache"

#
# Listen: Allows you to bind Apache to specific IP addresses and/or
# ports, instead of the default. See also the <VirtualHost>
# directive.
#
# Change this to Listen on specific IP addresses as shown below to
# prevent Apache from glomming onto all bound IP addresses.
#
#Listen 0.0.0.0:80
#Listen [::]:80
Listen 80

You could always just password protect the folder with a .htaccess file

Ok i added an empty file ".htaccess" in the minecraft folder.
But i can still browse the folder with firefox.

What code do i put in the file to dissalow all?
No password/user etc as i see in like ALL tutorials with this file..

Update, i found this tutorial:
http://linux.goeszen.com/simply-lock-a-dir-for-browsing-no-password-using-htaccess.html

Code:
Code: Select all
Order deny,allow
Deny from all

Seems to work :)

Thanks you JJ_Tagy
