How do I set the root password for phpMyAdmin Software version: 5.5.27?

Also, is there anyway I can update phpMyAdmin non manually?

the 'root' password is really not 'for phpMyAdmin', it is for MySQL. PhpMyAdmin is a shell for MySQL. All the MySQL 'users' are part of the MySQL metadata in the database table mysql/user.

The best way to do this is with the XAMPP security script which will set the XAMPP access, MySQL root password and 'pma' user and then write a correct config.inc.php.

its explained here:
http://localhost/security/index.php

this is the actual security script URL:
http://localhost/security/xamppsecurity.php

Good Luck
:)

who were you trying to 'log in' on phpMyAdmin as???

It should have been

User: root
Password: the one you created with the security script

Did you use the option to save settings as text file?

Good Luck
