Apache won't start after I moved my Temp folders

Postby groengoen » 24. October 2012 15:57

Hi,

This is my first post, so please bear with me. My XAMPP control panel, Apache & MySQL were working fine for ages.

Recently I decided to move my Temp and Tmp folders from the C: drive to the D: drive because of space limitations. Ever since doing that I have been unable to start my Apache server. In the XAMPP control panel I click on start and it apparently starts for a few seconds and then aborts. The log file in xampp:\apache\logs\error does not seem to be updated since the date of the above movement of Temp & Tmp.

Is there somewhere in the config files I should have changed something?

I have been looking through the posts but have found nothing quite the same. Being fairly new to this I don't know where to start,

Cheers

1. How did you move them?
2. Could you run 'apache_start.bat' in the /xampp directory and post the error if it spits one out?

Thanks for your reply hackattack, I appreciate your interest. Here are the replies to your 2 questions:

1) I moved them using the instructions at this link http://www.askvg.com/where-does-windows-store-temporary-files-and-how-to-change-temp-folder-location/

2) I ran the apache_start.bat and got the following result

C:\xampp>apache_start.bat
Diese Eingabeforderung nicht waehrend des Running beenden
Bitte erst bei einem gewollten Shutdown schliessen
Please close this command only for Shutdown
Apache 2 is starting ...
(OS 10048)Only one usage of each socket address (protocol/network address/port)
is normally permitted. : make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:80
no listening sockets available, shutting down
Unable to open logs

Apache konnte nicht gestartet werden
Apache could not be started
Press any key to continue . . .

I have looked around to see if I could find make_sock anywhere in my xampp directory but could not.

Thanks again.

The problem was solved by checking the svc checkbox and re-booting. Apparently this allows Apache to grab port 80 before the system does. I now have to resolve why myphpAdmin won't accept the normal log in details.
