Cannot access LAMPP-1.8 from other systems after its upgrade

Postby babi2305 » 04. October 2012 13:08

Hello everyone,

I am having an issue with Lampp-1.8 on red-hat after upgrading it from Lampp-1.7.x The thing is that on earlier version I had changed the port to 8080 [httpd.conf] and ssl to 1443 [httpd-ssl.conf] also did change in the /opt/lampp/lampp file and replace the default values with the above. Then, I upgraded lampp with the upgradation package given on the website. My problem is:

All my websites and databases are working fine, totally accessible on my system. But when I am trying to access it with other systems through LAN, its not working. The Browser returns the error "Firefox was not able to find ip.address.some.thing:8080 to this server". It was working fine with earlier version and fairly accessible to all others. I didn't find any forum/tutorials/help related with this issue. I have already tried it with disabling firewall.

Kindly HELP!!

P.S. Its my first post, I hope I asked it correctly..

OK

I have a question - what exact 1.7 version did you apply upgrade from, and how did you do the upgrade?

I ask because the upgrades are diff/patches, they have to be done sequentially

- so if it was 1.7.4 originally -

A. - upgrade to 1.7.7 using that upgrade- xampp-linux-upgrade-1.7.4-1.7.7.tar.gz
B. - then upgrade to 1.8.0 - xampp-linux-upgrade-1.7.7-1.8.0.tar.gz

Good Luck

Thanks JonB,

That was a wonderful piece of information. However, luckily I upgraded from 1.7.7 to 1.8.0 using upgrade package following these steps (http://beeoinfo.wordpress.com/2012/09/11/upgrade-xampp-with-changed-port/). But I am interested to know, what if I have upgraded directly from 1.7.4 to 1.8.0? How would then I have returned back to 1.7.4 to upgrade it again with 1.7.7..?

By the way regarding my current problem, is there can be issue with SSL file settings..?? Just a guess..

Thanks..

A. I can't speak to what he/she wrote

B. About the OOPS! issue - hopefully you would have used the LAMPP built-in backup. Then you would have just re-installed 1.7.4, run the backup-restore shell script and started anew.

C. I don't think its the SSL settings

D. The XAMPP Devlopers may have enabled the AJP proxy by default in httpd.conf. It uses 8080 I think.

E. What are the URL's you are using to access the sites/whatever locally?

Good Luck

Thanks JonB.

I am still struggling to resolve the issue. I am accessing the database with the URL: http://1xx.1x.x.1x:8080/some-website (from other systems) or http://localhost:8080/some-website (from my system, where the LAMPP is running). I am not having a problem with http://localhost:8080/ on my machine, its when I am accessing it through other machines, putting my ip-address as a URL, the browser is giving error of not-found.

Since apache2 was already running on my system, I had to change the port to access both apache and lamp simultaneously. I can access apache2 localhost from other machines(through my ip-address) but not lampp localhost. (why? why? why? ) :(
