Unable to access server.

Problems with the Linux version of XAMPP, questions, comments, and anything related.

Unable to access server.

Postby stuartkeith » 22. August 2012 12:23

Hi peeps, I have got everything up and running locally on the system and have installed Joomla on it ok. However I cannot access it from anywhere else on the network.
I have it running on Centos Linux version 6.

I can ping both ways and it responds fine. Are there any Linux gurus that can help me look at settings to see if its being blocked? I had it working fine on a windows box. so its not a network issue.

Cheers

What "it" is, is unclear --

Joomla, or XAMPP/lampp itself?

What happens when you go to http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xx/xampp from one of your other machines? where xxx.xxx.xxx.xx is the IP of the machine running lampp.

If you can get to XAMPP welcome page:
What did you make the URL in Joomla's configuration???

:?:

Sorry, when I visit the IP address of the machine the server is running on. If i put the IP address of the machine on its own it works ok. Joomla has been installed into the root htdocs folder.

Ive been trying all the ports I can think of, like 80 and 8080 and I just get unable to connect to server.

"The connection has timed out

The server at 10.0.0.53 is taking too long to respond.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web."

Ok, let me parse that first paragraph

OK, first please do this test from the other machine(s) as I asked:
What happens when you go to http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xx/xampp from one of your other machines? where xxx.xxx.xxx.xx is the IP of the machine running lampp.

Please also answer the other question:

What did you make the URL in Joomla's configuration???

thanks and good luck

That is what i get when I do as you have requested, the joomla install is in the root folder so that as soon as you goto localhost the site comes up. i have renamed the xmapp index to indexa.php

you say the problem is that you can't access it from other machines on the same network, right?

"I cannot access it from anywhere else on the network"

We need to know -> "from the other machine(s)" for my first test request? - perform the task at a station that is not the one that has lampp installed.

and the answer to the question "what did you make the URL in the Joomla configurationh?"

those two items will tell us what is wrong.

Good Luck
