Please help!!! Greatly appreciated!

I've downloaded everything from XAMPP. Downloaded the 1.8 version. I have not been able to log into localhost/phpmyadmin? Every time I try I get this message:

Server error!

The server encountered an internal error and was unable to complete your request. Either the server is overloaded or there was an error in a CGI script.

If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster.

Apache/2.4.2 (Win32) OpenSSL/1.0.1c PHP/5.4.4

I have not been able to log in once. I did make sure MySQL is running, etc.

I'm not very tech savvy (actually... this is my first attempt at anything of this sort), so please... in lamest terms or the simplest so I can understand.

1. Did you make any changes to the environment/configuration?

2. Please post the last part of the Apache error log - \xampp\apache\logs\error_log.txt
