[solved]cannot test website with XAMPP 1.8

I am a neophyte. (my apologies) 3 years ago I created a website using The Turning Gate Templates and XAMPP and all went well. I was hoping for a repeat experience. No such luck. I installed XAMPP two different ways on my Widows 7 64 bit machine, created the website but cannot test it with XAMPP 1.8-Apche 2.4.2 PHP 5.4.4 (VC9 x86 32 bit...)
XAMPP Control Panel 3.0.12 looks and behaves as expected but I am unable to communicate with PayPal cart.
It seems my PHP install is the problem. My C++ programs in Windows control Panel>Add/delete programs are:
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - x64 9.0.30729.17
Microsoft Visual C++ 20010 x64 Redistributable - 10.0.30319
Microsoft Visual C++ 20010 x86 Redistributable - 10.0.40219
Is something incompatible here?
Would I be better off with an earlier version of XAMPP? (if so could you tell me what and how to get it?
Do I need a 64bit version of XAMPP?

What does "cannot test" mean? Details!

Nobody knows your script, exept you. So the question for you is: Is your script able to run with PHP 5.4?

No. This are just runtimes and can normally run all together on the same machine without any problem.

I don't know!? We don't know your script.
You could try:

• XAMPP 1.7.7 (last version with PHP 5.3.X)
• XAMPP 1.7.1 (last Version with PHP 5.2.X)
• XAMPP 1.6.8 (last version with PHP 4.X)

All of them are available fpr download at Sourceforge

Do I need a 64bit version of XAMPP?

No, there is no 64Bit version available. The 32Bit versions can run very well on x64 systems.

I don't understand my mistake regarding your statement above. I thought I just typed into the text block provided. Please explain so that I don't make the same mistake again.

I really appreciate your time and effort in responding to my previous post. I was at quite a loss at to what was wrong because the script I am using is a purchased product that I know works.

I finally figured out that CURL was not enabled in PHP.ini. I enabled it and things are now working.

Some threads at the forums are special, Announcements and Stickies.
You can identify Announcement very easy, because they have their own area in the forum overview on the very top. This threads are just for very important informations the moderators trying to communicate.
The stickies are important messages too, this posts have a bulp icon at the forum overview and are always on the very top of all threads which are not announcements. This threads sometimes are important support threads to so that the users don't have to search them. But sometimes they are just for informations too.

You have posted on an Announcement which should inform users, that the Microsoft C++ Runtimes are a requirement for the current XAMPP version, because many support requests can be solved with installing this runtime first. And we are trying to give that information on a easy to find place. Thats why this is an announcement. This annpouncement is not meant to collect support requests, but just to inform you what to do first.

Just for future requests: We can't provide any support for third party scripts, especially not commercial ones!
You have paid money for it so you have the right for support on it too.
The first way if you have problems would be to ask the third party coder, because he should know which requirement his script has.
