My stats:
XAMPP Version 1.8.0 (c:\xampp)
Control Panel Version 3.0.12
Server - Windows 2008r2
I have everything up and running, and I am working on installing phpBB for one of my websites. However, I am unable to create a new user in phpMyAdmin and be able to log in using that new user. Every time I try to log in I get "Cannot log in to the MySQL server." I am positive that the username and password are correct (board, 1). Also, the password for "root" is currently blank. I have tried my scenario both with a password for root and without. It doesn't seem to affect the situation.
I have been through the forums and these are the steps I have currently taken:
- Edited c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts - 127.0.0.1 localhost is enabled, :: localhost is commented out
- Checked config.ini.php. Line $cfg['Servers'][$i]['auth_type'] = 'cookie'; has 'cookie' in it.
- Root password is currently blank.
- \xampp\mysql\bin\my.ini file - bind-address is set to "127.0.0.1"
According to my MySQL error log, I am getting no errors:

However, in phpMyAdmin, I do show, at last count, 5 failed attempts for today. If you want to see my config.ini.php and my.ini files, I will happily post those, too.
Any assistance available will be much appreciated. Thank you.
