InnoBD problems

Postby jween » 02. April 2012 19:47

Hi there

I'm using XAMPP 1.7.3 on OS X 10.7.3 and can't seem to get InnoDB to initiate properly.

InnoDB: Unable to lock /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/var/mysql/ibdata1, error: 35
InnoDB: Check that you do not already have another mysqld process
InnoDB: using the same InnoDB data or log files.

running ps -aux -a we get:
nobody 544 0.0 0.5 671448 21616 ?? S 11:20AM 0:00.16 /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/sbin/mysqld --basedir=/Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles --datadir=/Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/var/mysql --user=nobody --log-error=/Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/var/mysql/jween.local.err --pi
root 419 0.0 0.0 2435488 876 ?? S 11:20AM 0:00.02 /bin/sh /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/bin/mysqld_safe --datadir=/Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/var/mysql --pid-file=/Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/var/mysql/jween.local.pid

So there seems to be two instances of mysqld running, one standard one _safe? Not sure. I've tried starting XAMPP with and without the launch daemon, same problem in either case.

Anyhow, I noticed in the forums that this was a problem in 1.7.3 in windows and that upgrading to 1.7.7 might help, but there is no such upgrade for OS X.

Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot/fix this?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers

OK, an update:

I've been using XAMPP launch daemon script as suggested here http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20080616193556924

For some reason this launches BOTH mysqld and mysqld_safe, so there are two instances of the daemon which caused InnoDB to not lock files properly and therefore not run. By killing both daemons and starting only mysqld from the commandline, all worked well. Not sure why XAMPP behaves like this. But there it is. Will just have to manually start the daemon from now on.
