xampp portable - server problems [self-Solved]

Postby daddy_boglin » 01. March 2012 21:52

I've a newbie to Xampp, and was really pleased when I got it working on a USB stick.
I used xampp lite, downloaded it onto my PC and then installed it on the root of my USB.
It worked a treat until i moved computers: i am getting this error:

Server error!

The server encountered an internal error and was unable to complete your request. Either the server is overloaded or there was an error in a CGI script.

If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster.

Error 500

127.0.0.1
03/01/12 20:34:55
Apache/2.2.21 (Win32) mod_ssl/2.2.21 OpenSSL/1.0.0e

The error log reads:
[Thu Mar 01 20:34:20 2012] [alert] [client 127.0.0.1] E:/xampp/htdocs/xampp/.htaccess: Invalid file path G:\\xampp\\security\\xampp.users
[Thu Mar 01 20:34:55 2012] [alert] [client 127.0.0.1] E:/xampp/htdocs/xampp/.htaccess: Invalid file path G:\\xampp\\security\\xampp.users

Looking at the internet, the install is meant to give you the option of making the installation independent of drive letter: have I missed a step somewhere?

Is there an easy fix, or do I have to start all over again?

Hope someone can help.

At the install, instead of using the installer use the zip file.

Extract to the root of the USB drive - just like it says on the instructions
