XAMPP Not shutting down right/blocking access to other sites

Postby celesstehorgan » 17. February 2012 04:01

I installed XAMPP 1.7.3 on my Macbook Pro Mac OSX Lion about a week ago.

Since installing, some sites like http://adobe.com refuse to go to their homepages - XAMPP instead redirects adobe.com to its locally-installed splash page. This occurs in both Firefox and Chrome. Screencap here: http://www.bateszi.me/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/Screen-Shot-2012-02-16-at-6.53.58-PM.png - note the address bar and favicon.

I traced the problem to the fact that Apache seemed to not be shutting down properly. Every time I launched the XAMPP Control app, it showed Apache as running (green) upon launch, without having been started.

I followed the instructions in this thread: http://community.apachefriends.org/f/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=35361 and attempted to shut down the processes via Terminal. This didn't work, and http://adobe.com still redirected to XAMPP's splash.

Since this didn't work, I figured a restart would finish this once and for all, but now upon attempting to access adobe.com, I see this: http://www.bateszi.me/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/Screen-Shot-2012-02-16-at-6.53.37-PM.png

After restarting I cleared my browsing history and tried again, but it didn't work.

So far, adobe.com is the only site I've found that's affected. I'm not sure why this is, or what causes it.

... Any solutions?

Because Adobe has components in its suites that use Port 80???

or

Someone has redirected Adobe to 127.0.0.1 with an entry in the hosts file to avoid the product activation limitations????

or both those are related????

Good Luck
