FileZilla FTP Service will not install [SOLVED]

Postby rthornton159 » 29. January 2012 02:45

I just installed XAMPP 1.7.7 . I have Apache and MySQL running, but I have not get FileZilla to Install as a Service. I do not get the 3 steps I have read about. All I get is:

1) Click OK to install FileZilla as a Service: OK
2) Install Service? Yes

I get nothing else, but the SVC checkbox is checked. When I select Start, I get Error: Filezilla FTP must run as a Service.

I have tried running the FileZillaServer.exe (there is also a FileZilla Server.exe) with the same results.

I have rebooted with no change.

I have checked port usage and 14147 is not being used.

I have ran FileZilla Server Interface.exe. I get the Connect to Server Dialog.

Server Address: 127.0.0.1
Port: 14147
Password: (Blank)

I select OK

I get "Error, could not connect to server"

It does not show up in the services list, nor in the Task Manager processes or services.

Thanks for any help.

Are you logged into W7 as an admin - even if you are, then often right clicking on a exe or bat file etc. and selecting to run as an admin will give you even more privileges that may be needed when running a web server especially when dealing with Windows services...

...but you could try using the version 3 control panel found in the xampp installation folder:
xampp-control-3-beta.exe
Right click on it to select to run as an admin for best results.
Stop all XAMPP components and remove the ticks in the Svc check boxes then click on Exit in the older 2.5 version before starting this version 3 control panel.

Just to add, the latest and greatest Control Panel Version 3 download post is linked below my signature.
Simply extract all the files from the CPv3 folder in to the xampp installation folder and overwrite when asked - do not extract the CPv3 folder complete, only extract it's content.
Then right click the exe file to run as administrator and to create a shortcut to the desktop for example, for easier access.

Make sure that you have exited all other control panel versions before starting this latest version.

This version 3 (XCPv3) control panel has many new features including a much more detailed log window and a button to easily access the log files to help with troubleshooting start and running issues.

Shoot! I knew that about Run as Admin and did not do it before.

That got it!

Wonder how I can make that permanent from the XCP without have to right click on the file all the time?

Thanks!

Activate the secret 'super' administrator account in Win7 (or Vista):

I will close this topic and mark it solved.

Please feel free to start a new topic if you have any more issues with XAMPP for Windows.

Best wishes. :)
