Upgrade 1.6.4 to current advice

Postby slb813 » 20. January 2012 22:00

Hi, I am wanting to upgrade my 1.6.4 installation to current, mostly to get TomCat running. Is there a upgrade process, or is this a new install? Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Can I save my INI and config files and put them back in place after the install to retain my settings, or are they not compatible with the new version?

Thank You

your current XAMPP version is way too old as i would recommend to copy the whole configuration files to the new XAMPP version.
investigate the configuration parameters one by one. Some has become obsolet, some has changed and others were added.

If you are unsure, start with a fresh install and just change things because something isn't working any more.

If you choose the current .zip version, you can extract that file to it's own folder (e.g. c:\xampp177\), so you don't need to hard switch from an old version to an old version (but you cannot run them both at the same time).

best wishes,
