apache wont start [SOLVED]

Postby cuzzmunger » 22. January 2012 00:40

Hi,
Ive just installed 1.7.7 on a clean windows 2003 server (SP2 x86) with all updates done & apache is not starting,

WARN: This program must be run from your XAMPP root directory.
INFO: Perhaps this program running on a 64 bit platform please ignore the message above.

If I click start it says:
Apache started [Port 80] - but I cant click admin and the green "running" is not showing unlike MySql & Filezilla

I'm new to XAMPP but interested in getting this to work.
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers

By the warning message re run from XAMPP root you are using the new XCPv3 Control Panel which must be started from the XAMPP installation folder - C:\xampp in a default installation.

When Apache can't start please read the \xampp\apache\logs\error.log file for clues.

Let me know back what the error.log file has to say why Apache can't start.

Thanks.

Hi Sharley,
Thanks for the reply.
There are no log files in the C:\xampp\apache\logs

what else can we try?
Cheers

XAMPP for Windows 1.7.7 is compiled using VC9 (Visual C++ SP1) and so the runtime file (Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86)) is needed and can be downloaded then installed using this Microsoft link which also contains full information:
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/de ... px?id=5582

Then try and start Apache again.

Good luck. :)

I installed the above! no luck.

I launched the beta control panel to see what would happen.
I noticed the following:
11:20:48 AM [mysql] Possible problem detected: Port 3306 in use by "mysqld.exe"!

I turned of sql & apache started fine.

What should I do? change the port?

Try downloading the latest version 3 control panel that is linked in my signature.

Open the download archive file and then click on the CPv3 folder.
Then drag the files and folders into your xampp installation folder overwriting when asked.

Important to close any other version control panels before starting this latest version.

Now you will see perhaps a better log window with more detail and more general features.

Now you should click on the green tick in the MySQL Service column to remove the MySQL Windows service.

Once this has been achieved you should see a red X in its place.

You should then be able to start MySQL.

The Windows Service (Green Ticks) are not required for normal use of XAMPP, so you could remove them all and start the XAMPP components manually, the preferred method.

Good luck. :)
