Can't see the Control Panel [Solved]

Postby mitchell65 » 17. January 2012 14:33

Just installed Xampp and everthig is running fine. Only problem now I can't stop the services as I can't access the Control Panel. When I click the Desktop Icon, I get the Xampp is already running error message. I saw the Control panel after installation but then off it went into cyber space, Is it never to be seen again and how can I turn the services off?
Thanks

Did it just minimize itself into the small icon tray by the clock?

No I think I hit the "X" and closed it thinking that would stop the services Doh!!!
Had to shut down windows and when I rebooted the icon was as you say in the taskbar but the services were running. Seems if you accidently hit the "X" then you cant get back to the Control Panel to turn the services off! I suppose I should have found a way to stop the services via the files in the Xampp folder. Seems a complex was of doing things though!

If you are using XAMPP 1.7.7, you can use the newer version 3 control panel (xampp-control-3-beta.exe) in the XAMPP root folder.

Hitting the 'X' in the control panel does not fully close it, it minimizes it to the icon tray by your clock with the xampp icon. You need to actually hit the 'Exit' button on the interface to close it. The same is true for the beta control panel except it is the 'Quit' button to fully close it.

I am using Version 1.7.3 as this is the version recommended by the Joomla docs. When I hit the "x" it does send the icon to the taskbar but on clicking that icon again i get the "Error" XAMPP is already running and there is no way to get the Control panel to open!

Would you be so kind as to add your XAMPP version and Operating System to your profile as per these instructions and associated information:

I apologise for the omission. It is particularly remiss of me as on a Forum I administer I am constantly asking members to complete their specs! Sorry!

Thanks for that and no need to apologise all is now cool. 8)

Open the Task Manager then click on the Processes tab and look for and kill the xampp-control.exe process.

Then go to the xampp installation folder and right click on the xampp-control.exe file and select to run as an administrator and see if the control panel opens.

You should then be able to remove the ticks in the Svc boxes to remove the Windows services.

Best if you are logged into Windows as an Administrator but even then often right clicking on bat and exe files in XAMPP and selecting to run as an admin seems to give more privileges.

Good luck. :)

Many thanks all is now clear. All that was not happening was that the small icon was not showing next to the clock in the taskbar. Have now fixed that and all is well thank you!
