Can't start PHP [SOLVED]

Postby MTG » 13. January 2012 22:50

It seems like an old problem, there are no solution for me.
System: Window xp service pad 3, Xammp 1.7.7 I installed couple days ago, console panel 2.5,Firefox browser
I use installation package, when asked for service, I checked all 3 (php,Mysq..file..), after it completed installation, Xammp panel shows Mysq is active, but PHP is not, I clicked on Start button, no movement, the prompts said Port 80 busy ...just like other member's problem.
I tried the suggestion from the forum, look for panel v3, I can't find it in the folder.
I am new to all this, and desperately need help.

The new version 3 control panel is in the xampp installation folder C:\xampp by default:
xampp-control-3-beta.exe
...and the latest version can be found in the link in my signature.
Download the archive and extract all the files and folders, overwriting when asked, into the xampp installation folder.

Right click on the xampp-control-3-beta10.exe file and create a shortcut to your desktop, or some other suitable location for easier access.

This latest version has a more detailed log window and a Netstat button that can tell you what is using ports.

Make sure you have exited the older 2.5 version control panel before running the XCPv3.

Also best to remove by selecting the ticks in the 2.5 version to uninstall the Windows services before clicking on the Exit button, so you have a clean start with XCPv3.

Please let me know back if you have any problems with locating XCPv3 or if you are not familiar with the contents of the log window.

Good luck. :)

I found file xampp-control-3-beta.exe, xampp-control.exe,and also uninstall.exe. I don't see uninstall control file.
I need to uninstall pannel 2.5 first, should I use uninstall.exe or just delete xampp-control.exe

thanks for your help!

No need to uninstall the 2.5 version at all as there is no uninstall, just delete or rename the 2.5 version exe file if you no longer need it.

Best wishes. :)

Then it is still running.

Did you click on the Exit button or just the X in the top corner of the CP window?

If you click on the X it will put an icon in the tray - you need to click on the Exit button to close it down completely.

Best wishes. :)

Ok, I delete Panel 2.5 exe. I click on control-3-beta.exe and it prompts the control panel v 3.0.2 and 3 service modules are checked.
When I clicked on Start, at the bottom it said starting apache app.... Admin button didn't come up.

Now see if you can follow my instructions to download, extract and use the better latest XCPv3 version.
Sharley wrote:...and the latest version can be found in the link in my signature.

Press the Quit button in 3.0.2 to do the same as Exit did in 2.5 version.

With this latest version you can right click in the log window and copy and paste the contents here in between code tags so we can see what you see.

Good luck. :)

 Why that :?:
You don't need to send anything. Just copy the contents of the status window and paste it right here into code-BBTags ("Code" button right above this text input field)

Simply click on the Control Panel Version 3 Image Link in Sharleys Signature and scroll down that thread to the Download Link.

It was my fault. I download the new version without delete v3.2.0 exe. file first. Error message pop up.
** Cannot delete Xammp control-3-beta:
Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full
or write protected and that the file is not currently in use.

I also delete xammpv3. ini and xammpv3.log

What should I do now?

No need to delete these files as they are important and no where in this topic did anyone tell you to delete anything at all.

Both the XCPv3 ini and log files are created every time you start the control panel and are needed.

Did you follow the instructions to download and use the latest version in my previous post?

Perhaps re-read this topic might be a good place to start.

Here is some more reading that may help.
readme_en.txt file in the xampp folder.

I think I want to uninstall the whole program. Before I do that, I want to double check with you.
1/uninstall using uninstall.exe in xammp folder.
2/install 3.1.7.7 again
3/ skip install control panel v3.02, install control panel version 3.11 under your name.
Thanks,

Try a different method of installation by following these instructions to use the archive zip or 7zip method:
viewtopic.php?p=179699#p179699

Then download and extract the latest version control panel from the link and overwrite when asked.
Then use the latest XCPv3 by right clicking and selecting to run as an admin.

Do not delete any files in the new installation or you will break something - absolutely no files need to be deleted in the fresh installation.
