Problem running Apache Service [SOLVED]

Postby Philhgi » 03. January 2012 12:01

Hi There,

I've just installed XAMPP hoping to use the phpmyadmin mysql service, but I can't seem to access it because the 'Apache' Service won't start. I had this installed yesterday and was working fine but now it just won't start. I think I got an error message during the re installation where it said that the ports were already in use, but I had uninstalled it at the time.

Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks,

Philhgi

You may not have uninstalled the Windows service before closing the control panel.

You did install it into the root of a drive or partition like C:\ so you have c:\xampp installation folder?

You could use the version 3 control panel found in the xampp installation folder:
xampp-control-3-beta.exe
The latest version download link is in my signature.
Simply extract all the files from the archive to the xampp installation folder and overwrite when asked.
Then right click the exe file to run as administrator and to create a shortcut to the desktop, for example, for easier access.

This version has more detailed log window and it might give you/us a better idea of what is happening, plus it has many more useful features.

Let me know back what the log window gives you - you can right click on it and copy and paste.

Good luck. :)

Works now, Thanks! :D

In the beta window it said that Port 443 was already being used by my Skype. Just exited Skype and ran the services and it works :)

Thank you very much! :)

Skype uses ports 80 and 443 by default.

You can alter that behaviour by going to:
Tools\Connection options...\Connections

Untick
Use port 80 and 443 as alternative for incoming connections

This will not affect Skype but will allow you to start Apache and Skype at the same time.

Best wishes. :)
