uninstalled, folder not deleted, registry traces? [SOLVED]

Postby sintj » 02. January 2012 21:19

Hello. Is xampp portable? Because I unistalled it (I installed it with the installer) and an empty folder of xampp could not be deleted, then I had to restart and delete it. I mean, does xampp work with registry and if so what is installed in the registry? I didn't install services. Then, I reinstalled xampp in a new folder with the installer.

So, at first I unistalled it and it failed to delete an empty xampp folder, so I deleted the folder, then I reinstalled xampp using the installer to a new directory. Could the initial xampp leave traces in registry?

Hi sintj,

yes it is. You can move it around (if everything is shut down) and bring it back to work with just one execution of the setup_xampp.bat file.

That is very common a Windows indexing problem.

Registry keys will normally not prevent you to delete a folder, exept there is a windows functionallity behind that.
XAMPP uses the registry just for the Windows service paths.

If you want to try an alternate method of installing then try these instructions as a guide.

If you want a portable installation then the above method minus running the setup_xampp.bat file will do it. Do not use the installer version if you want a portable installation.

Good luck. :)

I am just wondering if the original installation of xampp left any traces in registry after uninstalling.

My point is, since xampp uses the registry for services paths, it couldn't ruin my registry, right?
