how to setup tha FTP server ?

Hi There,

I just installed XAMP. The webserver is running fine. I used to have an older version ofXamp running the ftp server. Now with the newest version i just not get it configured. I installed the ftp service. When i open it and want to connect it replies with :" authentication
Protocol error: Unknown protocol identifier (0x50 0x50 0x48). Most likely connected to the wrong port." as host i filled in the local address of the server it's running on, in the port box i filled in 21. In the router i used the same values in the portforwardfunction.

What does the trick?

Any suggestions are more then welcome.

Which version of XAMPP did you install as your profile indicates a very old version and FileZilla has had many changes over the years.

Please amend your profile if you no longer are using 1.6.0 by following these instructions:

Hi Sharley,

the profile fits with my former Xamp install, in fact it was even older 1.5.3, that wasn't an option in the tickbox. Now i am using the newest version i downloaded a few days ago.

Fred, so you are using XAMPP version 1.7.7
The version info can be found on the first line of the readme_en.txt file.
You can add this new version to your profile so we don't need to waist time asking every time you posts a new topic.

Hi Sharley,

Thanx for all the links. I'vre read them all, found no solution for my problem and installed a seperate FTD server which runs fune now without any problem. Bullet proof is running nice, was easy to configure and does its work.

I still don't know what the problem is within Filezilla. I used it before without any problems on my old Xamp installation (1.5.3) now with the new one 1.7.7 it just won't work.

when the elder version of FileZillaServer works for you, I would keep it. (I am using MercuryMail from xampp 1.7.3 , copied it to xampp 1.7.7 folder)

Also, are you trying to connect as a client or connect to the administration console to set it up?

If you are trying to set it up, you could try using the XAMPP Control Panel (Latest beta here: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=48932&p=186862#p186862). Just extract it to your xampp root directory and run it. This will allow you to install it as a service and the 'Admin' button will open the administration console for you.
