Setting HTDOCS for the user directory

Postby jlhaslip » 28. November 2011 00:35

XAMMP 1.7.7
Ubuntu 10.4

Issue: What I would like to do is have several users on a Linux Installation on my Laptop and have the HTDOCS folder recognized by the localhost as the HTDOCS folder in each user's home directory. I am pretty certain thaere is a Linux terminal command that will re-direct to each user's folders, but I do n ot know where tom find out the answer.

IE: user1 Htdocs folder contains their own files and using http:localhost/filename will use their files instead of the XAMMP HTDOCS folder files.

Thanks for answering.

I "never say 'never' " but I don't know if that's do-able with LAMPP - but I am going to think about it. LAMPP is not a 'standard' LAMP stack, so all bets are off.

There is an Apache module - mod_userdir - I think that might work.

http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/mod/mod_userdir.html

If that doesn't work, you could probably make a hack with symbolic links and vhosts.

XAMMP 1.7.7
Ubuntu 10.4
info set to my profile, thanks for pointing that out. :)

And thanks JonB for those references.

I think I have used symbolic links in the past. I'll try that first and let you know if it works.

Thanks for the info in your signature but in your profile there are pre-made settings that when selected will display the info in the same place as JB and I display it - in the info panel under your Location BC Canada.

They are down near the bottom of this profile page:
ucp.php?i=164

Best wishes. :)
