Mercury port 25 Error on XCP v3.0.8 (XP) 1.7.7 [SOLVED]

Postby Shadowing » 24. November 2011 00:26

I finally got Apache working and decided to download control panel 3.0.8
I wasnt exactly sure how to install it. So i just replaced files with old files in the XAMPP folder
anyways i run the control panel and I get a error saying (mercury) possible problem detected port 25 in use by inetinfo.exe
I had this problem with that file blocking apache also for port 80 and 443. So I disabled the service which allowed me to run apache. I dont get this error when I run the control panel 3.0.2 or control panel 1.3 i think it is not sure doesnt say.

so with the service disabled how is inetinfo.exe still affecting a port?
and I dont even have mercury installed anyways but figure i should fix it

any help will be much appreciated
thanks

Apparently apache and mysql isnt working now in the 3.0.8 control panel now
no errors given just says starting apache app but never starts
so im guessing I installed the 3.0.8 control panel wrong

Edit: well now control panel 3.0.2 is giving that same mercury error and apache wont work now. So i guess copying and replacing files messed everything up

For XP, you may now have to download and install the VC9 runtime file from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/de ... px?id=5582

Can you copy and paste the relevant section from the xampp-control-3-beta7.log file found in the xampp folder?

The XCP3 checks all XAMPP related ports when it starts and can be found in the top right Config button under button Services and Port Settings.

Check the ports actually in use by using the Netstat button and see if it is true that inetinfo.exe is using port 25

IIS has an SMTP service.

How did you disable IIS?

See below.

If you click on the Details button when you highlight IIS it shows you all the IIS items and one is the SMTP Service.
Make sure that when you have disabled IIS that there are no ticks in any of the boxes.

These instructions may help
To disable IIS go to
Start>Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs
on the leftmost side you will find an option
Add or Remove Windows Components
click on it and then uncheck
Internet Information Services (IIS)
You can select Details and make sure all IIS components are unchecked.
Click OK
and then restart your computer.

You only needed to drag the xampp-control-3-beta7.exe file from the XCP3 archive file into the xampp folder.
Then you can right click on the exe file and create a shortcut and move it to a suitable location, your desktop for example.

When you run the exe file it creates a log file and an ini file automagically.

ok i reinstalled XAMPP cause thought i messed it up. I just pasted the control panel 3.0.8 in the XAMPP dir replacing folders and files.
Apache is working and MySQL is working

Still giving me the mercury port 25 issue with inetinfo
I hit netstat and ya it says inetinfo is using port 25.
But ya the only service I disabled was world wide web publishing
When following your disable IIS instructions. I dont have a programs and features. We both have windows Xp pro right?

Sorry in the Windows Control Panel select Add or Remove Programs then select Add or Remove Windows Components from the left menu frame you will then see the clickable list and Internet Information Services (IIS).

I will edit the above as it was an old copy and paste for another system.

When Apache and MySQL is running type http://localhost in your browser and after selecting you language you can exercise the demos found in the left frame to make sure the installation is working as it should.

New users can find self help by reading these first:
readme_en.txt file in the xampp folder.
