Apache and MySQL won't start (Win7 32) 1.7.7 {SOLVED]

Postby Bluebody » 18. November 2011 03:48

I've been trying to install apache, php, and mysql on my computer for 2 weeks now. I have been installing and uninstalling apache, but I can't get it to work. I'm on a windows 7 pro 32-bit computer with sp1. I have been trying to install apache 2.2.4. During installation of apache, I get the following:

1. A command line window comes up and outputs 11 or 12 lines of code similar to the following c:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Apache 2.2\conf\default\httpd-vhosts\conf.in Access is denied.
2. Then, during the same install process for apache, still on the command line, I get <OS 5> Access is denied. :Failed to open the WinNT service manager and also <OS 2> The system cannot find the file specified :No installed service named "Apache 2".

So then I thought I would try and install xampp, because it has what I want. After installing xampp 1.7.7, when I open the xampp control panel and click on start for Apache, I get ERROR: Apache service not started [-1].Also,when I click on start for My Sql,I get ERROR: MySql service not started [-1].

Please note that I uninstalled apache and mysql before I installed xampp. Any help on this would make my year. Thanks in advance,

that error is PROBABLY because you have not correctly uninstalled previous installations of MySQL and Apache

Open Computer > Management > Services and see if there are Services called httpd.exe or Apache2.2, and/or MySQL, or mysqld.exe running or installed.

Good Luck

Thanks for the reply. I do have Apache 2.2 and MySQL services. Both of which show the Path to executable to the old directories for Apache and MySQL that I have uninstalled. Do I delete them, disable them,or what?

You can issue a command from the Run... text box to get rid of those if they have not been removed when you uninstalled them.

You may have to be logged in as an Admin to perform the following actions.

Open a command prompt
(In Win7 http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/94 ... rompt.html )

Click start
Click on Run...
Type: cmd.exe

Remove old or sticky services.
Apache
Type:
sc delete apache2.2
Click OK

MySQL
Type:
sc delete mysql
Click OK

Check they have gone from the Service Manager.

sc is the service controller and once those sticking services are removed you should be able to proceed.

Let me know please how it goes.

Thanks! After opening the command prompt and typing "sc delete apache2.2", I get the following:[SC]OpenService FAILED 5: Access is denied.

Also at the command prompt, after typing sc delete mysql, I get the same output as above. Any ideas?

You are not using an elevated command prompt - follow the link in my last post and read about elevated command prompt.

or

You need to make sure you're running the command prompt as Administrator.
Type cmd.exe in the start menu, then right-click it and hit "Run as Administrator" -- otherwise it uses your standard user token, for security purposes.

This Access denied is just another of Micro$oft's annoying nanny feature.

I was able to delete the two services apache2.2 and mysql. Now,when I open the control panel and click start for apache,it says it is running and also displays: Apache started [Port 80]. When I click on start for mysql,it says running, and displays MySql started [Port 3306]. This means it is now working, right? Thanks so much!
