unable to install Xampp [Solved]

Postby brahmfrie » 18. November 2011 00:23

I am trying to create a Linux based web server using Xampp 1.7.7. The download is successful but when trying to install in the Linux shell using:" tar xvfz xampp-linux-1.7.7.tar.gz -C /opt" I get error message:

tar (child): xampp-linux-1.7.7.tar.gz: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar (child): error is not recoverable: exiting now
tar: Child returned status 2
tar: Error is not recoverable exiting now

I feel kind of dumb about this - I'm not a Linux user - I hope someone can help

That error message indicates you were not in the folder where the XAMPP download file is located.

Can I ask the most obvious question??? - if you are not a Linux user - why in the world are you setting up a Linux server???

Just asking ---

Good Luck

message from brahm - 8)

I've installed the program!!

It occurred to me to check whether the download was complete and discovered it was corrupted. So I downloaded it again - typed in the code and it worked beautifully.

Thanks for your patience and help.

Best regards,
