I can't stop XAMPP 1.7.7 on Solaris 10

Postby essam_h_z » 16. November 2011 21:24

I've been use XAMPP in Linux and it was great , now I'm trying to install it in Solaris 10 but I found lots of issues. I hope you help me in order to get rid of these issues. The story is:
I had Solaris 10 with MySQL Community Server 5.1.59 and Apache Tomcat 7.0 installed via pkgadd command, MySQL worked perfectly and tomcat work only if I add HTTP port # to IP address 127.0.0.1:8080 and MySQL configured with password for the root user. after that I've add php package and its dependencies from sunfreeware.com unfortunately php didn't work at all (calling php scripts in tomcat directory via browser didn't parsed). then I decided to use XAMPP, everything goes very will except MySQL that is accessed via phpMyAdmin without password (that's good) but it didn't work on terminal ( my favorite way to deal with MySQL :( ) due to this error:

ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2)

and I have to mention that new Apache works alongside the old Tomcat (When enter IP address without 8080).I google it to find out what's the problem, I've been try all of available solutions that I found but no one work for me  . I talk to myself that's the moment to remove every thing except tomcat (using pkgrm and rm -rf /opt/xampp) and reinstall only XAMPP again. But it was very bad idea coz phpMyAdmin (it prompts me to enter user and password although I keep everything to default (no password), when enter anything into user and password fields, it shows error that prompts me to check Apache and php logs ) stop working and mysql (and mysqladmin) didn't work totally from terminal (command not found), then I installed MySQL Community Server 5.1.59 the terminal worked good but phpMyAdmin still showing the same problem and php failed in connecting to MySQL database then I go to php.ini and edit mysql socket attribute from "/opt/xampp/...etc" to "/tmp/mysql.sock" and still didn't work. things that I have to mention:

1. All stop commends didn't work at all (/opt/xampp/xampp stop, /opt/xampp/xampp stopapache, ...etc).
2. After deleting XAMPP(rm -rf /opt/xampp) Apache Server still work!!!!!

please till me an easy way to delete every thing (except Apache Tomact) and start XAMPP probably :?

I don't think its possible to make XAMPP work with a different instance of MySQL. (just a guess).

XAMPP is pretty much 'take it as it is' on *nix like systems.

I'll see if anyone else has ideas.

Good Luck

I'm sorry - but I have had no response....

I know Windows - inside and out, Linux quite well (Unix System V certified originally on 1985), Mac's a good bit, but zero about Solaris. so nothing to offer really.
2. After deleting XAMPP(rm -rf /opt/xampp) Apache Server still work!!!!!

- that means you had a stack already installed in your distribution

Have you tried on Solaris forums???

Good Luck

Why ?
As far as I could ever tested there's no problem at all if you're a bit smart
and can configure every instance of apache /mysql / php separatelly
I'll tell you more - you can run as many apaches as you want to (or your hardware can bear)
but you have to bind them one by one, separatelly, to another port . Works perfectly for Linux, and
on Solaris you can do the same . Of course you may have some troubles using SMF
but i believe - it can be done .

Apart from that - you can use zones :)

1. All stop commends didn't work at all (/opt/xampp/xampp stop, /opt/xampp/xampp stopapache, ...etc).
2. After deleting XAMPP(rm -rf /opt/xampp) Apache Server still work!!!!!

Have you checked if there's another instance of apache running ?
You may have deleted the XAMPP apache, but your system could have it's own apache still running ...

Hi markooff,
if you're a bit smart

These are hard words...... :(
I had Solaris 10 with MySQL Community Server 5.1.59 and Apache Tomcat 7.0 installed via pkgadd command

then I decided to use XAMPP

And the config shows...
Apart from that - you can use zones

This is a solution.

I'm sorry , but my less-than-half-idiomatic :P :) enlish
sometimes plays tricks on me ...
I don't want to say something rude
I only want to say smoething like " come'on you can do this :)"

Today I've checked it , and i've noticed that there's a possibility
to get even more - you can use 2 or more apaches, mysqls (or another similiar daemons)
parallely on one system, even using SMF !
The only thing - is to prepare these daemons a bit (make your own manifests, configs and so on)

Best regards

markooff, it's easy to say "it is possible" but the hardest part is "how to do it". I'll be grateful if anyone could tell how to reinstall clear XAMPP installation again.
