USB Drive-What actually means root directory?

I'm trying to install a portable version of the XAMPP 1.7.7 on a USB drive.
I've got the zip file which unzipped will create a folder called xampp in the root of my USB drive. Is this the actual root or should I move all the files from within the newly created xampp folder into the root of the USB drive?

What does the readme_en.txt in the xampp folder say about what the root of a drive is and where you put the xampp folder?

As I said, when unzipping the archive it creates a folder xampp. My usb drive letter is E hence all the package files are in E://xampp. My question is: should I move all my files from within E://xampp to E:// to be able to work with relative paths and not running the xamp_setup.bat file?

Your files are not in E://xampp but E:\xampp
The name of the bat file is setup_xampp.bat.

What do you not understand?

It clearly states the xampp folder is built in the highest level of a drive (the root) and you do not to put the files from the xampp folder into the root of the drive.

Nowhere does it suggest you move the files out of the xampp folder.

I believe you will have many more issues with a web server if you can't understand simple installation steps.
