The CP3 log file about httpd.exe in use may be because when you started CP3 Apache and MySQL were already running.

Do you have another server running as this message you have posted may have nothing to do with XAMPP?
byf wrote:Also sometimes when i restart apache in services i get the following message saying there is a script error and asks me if i want to continue running it. IN the URL area of the message it says. res://WINDOWS\system32\mmcndmgr.dll\views.htm
Partial error message are not helpful, please post full error messages and exactly where you are seeing it and what you are doing to receive an error message.

Don't use the Windows Service Control Manager to start and stop apache, use the CP3 and see if you have issues using the panel as opposed to the SCM.

You don't need to use the Apache or MySQL services until you have solved your other problems as you won't know which is what.

Remember that we rely on you to give us all the details as we can't see your screen form here.

What does the Apache error.log file say when you get this error.

Stop Apache and MySQL in the CP3 and remove any tick in the service module column - make sure nothing is running.

Exit the CP3.

Right click on the apache_start.bat file in the xampp folder and select to run as administrator.

Paste here the message returned by using the Edit functions in the little icon top left of the console window,

When you have pasted the message here run the apache_stop.bat file to close the console window.

Now open the CP3 and paste here the CP3 log file content found in the xampp folder before you try and Start anything and do not put any tick in the service module columns.

The error res://WINDOWS\system32\mmcndmgr.dll\views.htm had something to do with me switching between the service control panel and CP3 to start and shut down programs while I was having problems. I don't think that is a issue here.

I shut down the apache, mysql and deselected them as services. I ran the apache start.bat command as requested. The "copy" function was greyed out so I can't copy. Secondly the first two lines were in a foreign language that I can not read. But the only other message stated apache had disabled the use of AcceptEx() WinSock2 API.

After stopping apache with stop.bat then opened the CP3 and started Apache and Mysql. Here are the logs;

Everything looks good and runs smooth for a while then Apache decides to stop responding. I believe this is when several users are trying to login at the same time. The first login for new people takes a few seconds to cache their browser. This process works fine at my hosting provider but not so much on my new stand alone setup.

Yes the logs look good.

I really feel that this is not an Apache issue but rather your flash script and or your browser.

So we are really back to square one with XAMPP working as it should except your flash based Visichat 2.5.8 script is stalling Apache during multiple logins.

What do the folks at Visichat have to say about this issue?
http://forums.gchats.com
http://forums.gchats.com/forumdisplay.php/3-Visichat

Is it a known issue with this script and Apache servers?

Try and post in their forum and explain which server you are using and the symptoms you have outlined here and see if you get a response.

I have exhausted just about all the known issues others have posted about with similar issues as yours plus some.

I believe you are correct in the fact there is a problem with the 2.5.8 as far as lagging on the first loging, but I seriously doubt the forums will help me. I've been using this software for years, been there done that! What I don't understand is why does this work on my providers apache and hang up on mine. I have more processing power than them by a long shot.

Oh well, the story of my life! I'll still try to send Santa your way because I do appreciate your time and effort!

One more thing you can answer for me if you don't mind. I have noticed some errors from time to time in my apache logs that I do not understand why I am getting them. The errors are accurate because these files do not exist but why am I getting them is the question.

[Thu Nov 17 14:53:01 2011] [error] [client xx.234.110.169] File does not exist: C:/xampp/htdocs/fcs
[Thu Nov 17 14:53:01 2011] [error] [client xx.234.110.169] File does not exist: C:/xampp/htdocs/open
[Thu Nov 17 14:58:56 2011] [error] [client xx.108.144.19] File does not exist: C:/xampp/htdocs/fcs
[Thu Nov 17 14:58:57 2011] [error] [client xx.108.144.19] File does not exist: C:/xampp/htdocs/open

Naturally I x'd out the first octets of the IP's. These are IP's of some users logging in the chat, or trying to.

Probable reasons for your hosting service not having problems could be versions and the fact they will be using Linux based servers - check what versions they are using on their server and compare with 1.7.7 of XAMPP in the readme_en.txt file.

You may be better using an older XAMPP version 1.7.3 for example which was quite stable for most scripts.

You can download and test older versions from here:
SourceForge XAMPP File Repository

Looks like someone is trying to access your server - you may find more details of how they are doing it in the access.log file.

Both errors had a access log as follows:

xx.108.144.19 - - [17/Nov/2011:14:58:56 -0600] "POST /fcs/ident2 HTTP/1.1" 404 1136 "-" "Shockwave Flash"
xx.108.144.19 - - [17/Nov/2011:14:58:57 -0600] "POST /open/1 HTTP/1.1" 404 1136 "-" "Shockwave Flash"

The 404 tells me there was a missing flash issue, possibly they needed to download it. This software detects and warns the user that they need to update their flash if it's missing or outdated. It could be that, but i am confused as to why apache would generate a missing file error on these particular files when the files are not suppose to be there in the first place.

And yes my provider uses linux. I've tried both windows 7 and now XP. The last time I tried to migrate my users it worked fine for about 30 minutes and around 70 people was already in the new site with everything running fine, then Apache just froze up, with 97% cpu usage still available. I will install some software where I can better monitor my running scripts to possibly isolate the problem.

Anyways thanks again for your help. I guess I will try and figure this out myself, somehow. SIGH :(

Happy Holidays

Apache gives a 404 file not found if it is requested and Apache can't find the file which is what happened.

Have you considered downloading an older XAMPP version as suggested?

Best of luck with your hunt. :)

I will install a older version now. I am currently running my chat DB on this current setup. I am using the Xampp Mysql and it has almost 200,000 users in it. I suppose I just uninstall the Xampp and tell it to not delete the Mysql, then install of a older version. Do I need to tell the "older" version not to install Mysql again?

You can install it using the zip or 7zip version as detailed here:
viewtopic.php?p=179699#p179699
No need to uninstall 1.7.7 yet as you can test with 1.7.3 first.

You can also have more than one XAMPP as long as only one is started at a time.

Simply drag the xampp folder to C:\ drive and rename it to xampp173 for example if that is the version you download.
Then run the setup_xampp.bat file.

I have several XAMPP version installed that I use for troubleshooting in the forums.

You can Export a copy of your database using phpMyAdmin then Import it into the other version.

I also hope you are aware now of the security implications of running XAMPP in a production environment which is not recommended - readme_en.txt files in the xampp folder and many posts in this forum attest.
