Accessing http://localhost

Hi,

I recently downloaded XAMPP APACHE, and i am trying to create a localhost in my sytem, but to no avail. The localhost doesnt open up on doing a http://localhost/

I have tried modifying my SKYPE ports as well. Can someone suggest what needs to be done. I have a VISTA machine .Thanks

Is Apache and MySQL started using the new Control Panel xampp-control-3-beta.exe found in the xampp folder, make sure you have exited the older 2.5 version first.

Did you try http://127.0.0.1 also.

Does your Windows HOST file have this line as the first line after the commented sections

127.0.0.1 localhost

If not then add it using notepad by right clicking and selecting run as Administrator, if you have trouble saving the file after editing.

Are there any clues in the \xampp\apache\logs\error.log file?

I had the same problem when i went to windows 7. I had to use the router local host url of 127.0.0.1 and it opened right up.

it still wont work,,it also gives an error like this in the control panel 3 beta version

7 [mysql] Possible problem detected: Port 3306 in use by "mysqld.exe"!

127.0.0.1 doesnt open on 127.0.0.1 although when i ping it on command prompt, its ok.
I had also folllowed the Configure XAMPP step on the link:

This means that Apache has never started.

Download the VC9 runtime file from Microsoft which can be found here:
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/de ... px?id=5582
After installing this file reboot, open the CP3 and now try and Start Apache then go to http://localhost again.

You can copy and paste the Control Panel 3 window content by opening xampp-control-3-beta.ini in your text editor.

Just registered to say that I had this problem and installing the VC9 runtime solved it for me.

I have a freshly installed windows XP sp3 installation without any interfering software. I tried the port checker tool and it said ports were all free. However, using the XAMPP control panel, I was not able to start Apache. When I clicked on "Start", the output panel would say:

Apache started [Port 80]
Busy...

But in the modules section it would never display Apache as running and when I clicked on "Status", it showed httpd as State 0.

Blocked ports via firewall or virusscanner or Winsock apparently had nothing to do with this problem for me. but as soon as I installed the VC9 runtimes, the issue was solved.
