Apache not running (XP) 1.7.7 [SOLVED]

Postby ZedDreppelin » 23. October 2011 21:46

Greetings all :)

I recently installed Xampp 1.7.7 on my Windows XP PC but the Xampp control panel shows MySQL is running but not Apache.

I'm also running this behind a router which is probably why Apache isn't working. Can anyone tell me what changes I need to make to grant access to my server through a router?

Also, I'd like to make my server open to the public so I probably would want a domain name but I have no idea how to do that either.

In other words, could somebody take me by the hand and walk me through the steps needed to get my server out on the Internet?

If you haven't already guessed, I new at this LOL

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Your Apache not starting issue:
Being behind a router will not affect Apache starting especially knowing that MySQL has started without issue as it is also behind the router.

Are there any clues in the \xampp\apache\logs\error.log file?

Sorry everyone but had I known it was going to be this much of a hassle to get this application running I never would have bothered downloading and installing it in the first place.

Congrats to everyone who managed to find the solutiions to their problems and are now enjoying the benefits of their hard work. As for me, I admit defeat and uninstalled everything that had anything to do with Xampp.

Perhaps I'll try again some other day.

Thanks to all those who took the time to answer my questions, I really do appreciate it.

You may only have needed to download and install the Microsoft runtime file from here to get Apache started and if you had replied to my post with the answer to the question I asked then I may have suggested doing this.

You were absolutely right.

I downloaded the MS runtime files and now I have Xampp up and running.

I give credit where credit is due. I still would have been in the dark if it wasn't for your suggestion.

I feel like such an @ss and I deserve it

Thank you once again for your help, I really really do appreciate it.
