Can't access to phpMyAdmin (Win XP SP2) - [SOLVED]

Hi all,

I'm new in website setup, a week ago I followed a guide-book to setup a wordpress page through XAMPP. At that moment, I could not access Apache properly as I had not freed Port 80. After several trials in uninstalling and re-installing the latest Apache and XAMPP, though the Apache runs normally, I just can't access http://localhost/phpmyadmin/.

Every time when I try to access it, it just returns

Not Found

The requested URL /phpmyadmin/ was not found on this server.

Would anyone tell me what I shall do to solve it? I have searched through internet for two days but get no idea in what's going on.

We require your XAMPP version and your Windows Version to provide the correct version support - please read:

I just can't access http://localhost/phpmyadmin/

Try http://localhost/xampp/phpmyadmin the correct address.

Read the readme_en.txt file in the xampp folder.

Go to http://localhost and select your language and then exercise all the demos to make sure your installation is good.

You can also find the phpMyAdmin menu item in the left frame of the Welcome page, plus much more.


Have you tried using the new version 3 control panel, if you are not already using it, instead of the older default version 2.5* as it has more features with a more informative log window:
C:\xampp\xampp-control-3-beta.exe
You can, if you wish, create a shortcut on your desktop for easy access.

It is reported that in the next XAMPP release the CP3 will be the default control panel.

I am currently using Window XP SP2 and XAMPP ver. 1.7.7 (ZIP archive).

I could access phpMyAdmin last week, I had created a database and added a new user for its authority. However after uninstalling and reinstalling XAMPP, I couldn't access it again. I have just tried the correct address (http://localhost/xampp/phpmyadmin), the same error appears.

When browsing http://localhost, it showed me "It Works!".

I have tried xampp-control-3-beta.exe and there is a button of error.log for MySQL. Would pasting the content here help?

Yes please.

Also the last part of C:\xampp\apache\logs\error.log file.

IT Works means no PHP is being parsed or Apache is not running and this topic resembles your issue:

No error log file means Apache has never started.

Does Apache show in a green background under Module?

This is strange as CP3 does not use port 80, something is very wrong here.

Click on the Netstat button see what is using port 80 and port 443 and let me know back.

The apache is shown with a green background.

For Port 80: httpd.exe. But I can't find Port 443 within the Netstat.

Apache should be listening on both 80 and 443 in a normal installation - strange issue.

It may be possible that your XAMPP installation is corrupt or you still have some issues left behind when you installed and uninstalled a few times.

My advise is to follow my instruction I posted above to correctly uninstall and then download the zip or 7zip archive version mentioned in the instruction here.

A clean fresh start may be the solution here as there are issues that are somewhat strange.

Hi~

The problem has been solved~

After following your instruction, I re-installed XAMPP and opened CP3. Initially, the condition was the same as what I posted earlier. Then I was puzzled about the "tick" in the Svc box next to apache. As your instruction stated clearly that "Make sure there are no ticks in any of the Svc check boxes.", I tried to click it and choose to uninstall the service. Then everything works well!

After recalling the steps done last week, I thought it might be caused by my action of updating apache (the guidebook suggested to install the latest apache version after installing xampp), which caused the service automatically "started" before I executed xampp. That's what I guessed...
