Joomla Blank Page (Win7 32bit) - [SOLVED}

Problems with the Windows version of XAMPP, questions, comments, and anything related.

Joomla Blank Page (Win7 32bit) - [SOLVED}

Postby LeMarque » 09. October 2011 00:44

I just installed xampp 1.7.7 on win7 32bit.

Used Akeeba to restore. I can access the admin backend fine but the site returns a blank page in FF7 and in IE9 the tab says its a500 internal server error.

Any help appreciated.

Read the \xampp\apache\logs\error.log file for clues about server 500 errors.

This a 404 error - what are you typing in the browser address bar?

There is no path like that in XAMPP.

Do you have a .htaccess file in your web site folder that is has a rewrite entry that has a path that is not configured correctly?

I don't see an error 500 in your log file, where did you see this error message and what did you have as an address in your browser?

Did you uninstall WAMPP completely before installing XAMPP as usually they don't coexists?

There is a path in a configuration file in the Geek folder that may be incorrect, you need to check it.
http://localhost/Geek
equates to the path:
C:\xampp\htdocs\Geeks folder tree.

Also try using the new version 3 control panel as it has more features with a more comprehensive log window:
C:\xampp\xampp-control-3-beta.exe
You can create a shortcut on your desktop for easy access.

Good luck. :)

You are not logged into Win7 as an administrator you should consider doing this as running a web server requires some functions to be run as an administrator not as an ordinary user,.

So when you start the CP3 right click on it and select to Run as Administrator and that will help eliminate one issue.

You have Windows Services for Apache and MySQL installed and will show as green ticks in the CP3.

Try stopping Apache and MySQL then click on the ticks to uninstall the services.

When you see the ticks grayed out then start Apache and MySQL again so we have a clean log file with no issues.

Your path issues could be caused by the upper case Geek - Apache and most things in XAMPP are case sensitive and it is advisable to keep to all lowercase names where possible.

Try rename that folder and adjust any paths that may show Geeks in uppercase to lowercase.

When you have started Apache and MySQL and there are no issues in the log window go to http://localhost and you should see the orange XAMPP Welcome page.

Exercise all the demos to test your XAMPP installation is working good so we have a clean base to start from.

Also you could try accessing your Joomla site using http://127.0.0.1/Geeks or http://127.0.0.1/geeks if you changed to lowercase file names - let me know if 127.0.0.1 works and not localhost.

Good luck. :)

It must have something to do with the template/modules in Geek.

I just installed J1.71 without any problems. I'll try it again tomorrow.

BTW - the 1.71 install didn't like the output buffering setting. Change this in php.ini?

The component versions in XAMPP can be found in the readme_en.txt file and should always be checked against any script type applications you intend installing for compatibility, which will save oodles of time in troubleshooting these types of issues.

http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?p=1262697 second post by humvee, this is a topic well covered in the Joomla forums.

XAMPP is a development environment so, by default, output buffering is 4096 bytes in the php.ini file, of course the choice is yours but from what I read, Joomla will work quite happily with default php.ini file output buffering setting.

BTW Joomla issues are best investigated in their own forum, this is basically an XAMPP issue forum.

Good luck. :)

Arrgghh, never mind

I guess the Akeeba backup I was using was damaged. Created a new backup, and it installed and displays just fine. Sorry.

Just a minor point. When I enter localhost in my browser it displays:

apache_pb.gif
apache_pb.png
apache_pb2.gif
apache_pb2.png
apache_pb2_ani.gif
favicon.ico
geek/
joom/
restricted/
sav.index.php
savindex.html
xampp/

I can work with it that way but was wondering why xampp doesn't display by default.

Thanks again

Thanks for the feedback and alls well that ends well. 8)

You have renamed the 2 XAMPP index files sav.index.php and savindex.html which is good now you have installed Joomla.

Now to access the XAMPP Welcome Page (some call it the Administration page or Admin page) you need to use this Address:
http://localhost/xampp/
or the full version:
http://localhost/xampp/index.php

Good luck and best wishes. :)
