http://localhost:8080/wordpress/index.phpShould find the index.php file in the wordpress folder which you placed in the htdocs folder which is the Apache server's DocumentRoot.
I would also edit this line in the httpd.conf file to save having a conflict on port 443 the HTTPS port, that is if you don't wish to use HTTPS, most don't if they are developing a Wordpress site:

# Include "conf/extra/httpd-ssl.conf"
Change it so it looks like the code above.
Save the file and restart Apache.
If you require to use HTTPS then leave that line and edit the mentioned file by changing all port 443 references to port 4433.
You also might like to use the new version 3 Control Panel
xampp-control-3-beta.exe found in the xampp folder, instead of the older less featured Control Panel.
