Trying to connect to MySql with SQL Maestro Group PHP editor

I can't seem to get this to work... I try to connect to MySql with this PHP editor program I just downloaded (http://www.sqlmaestro.com/products/mysql/phpgenerator/) and the connection doesn't work?!?

I use localhost for the Host name, enter my user name and password and enter a database name of a database that I created in PhpMyAdmin. I have tried leaving the port number blank and tried all the port number listed in the security section for Xampp (localhost/security/index.php)

Does someone know what's wrong? Apache and MySql are running just fine under the Xampp control panel.

Although this is really a question that would best be answered by the authors of that program - its impossible for anyone (including those authors) to 'guess' what's wrong without the specific error messages.
