apache won't start

Postby omgineedaname » 26. August 2011 04:26

I am having issues with Apache starting. I tried to do it manually like I've had to in the past and it says that there is an error 'A service specific error occurred:1 For more information type NET HELPMSG 3547' However when I do go to type said prompt to see what the issue is it closes the box on me. I've never had that happen... Before when I had to start it up manually it would work and all would be groovy, however now I'm having this issue and I was really hoping to work on my website that I have since let fall to ruin. Please help! any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Read the \xampp\apache\logs\error.log file for clues why Apache can't start.

You could also download the Control Panel Version 3 from the link in my signature and extract the exe file to the xampp installation folder.

When you double click on the extracted exe file instead of the control panel included in the XAMPP release it may also give you clues why Apache can't start.

Well - it might be really helpful to know A FEW MORE DETAILS -

Like What version of XAMPP? What Windows OS???

it would also be very useful to know what is in the tail-end of Apache Error log.

Are you talking about a stand alone version of Apache or an XAMPP version?

It's the xampp version. I've never downloaded apache by itself...

That's good.

So why not provide the information we asked for so perhaps we may be able to help you find a solution - do you have any particular reason for not supplying this information as without it your post is irrelevant?

So I think I found one of the problems, apache runs on port 80... and so does skype.... However, I need skype up and running and apache to run at the same time. Is there anyway to change the port apache runs on? Well if I knew how to provide the information that you had asked for I wouldn't be here asking for help. However, seeing as i found my problem I shall now stop annoying you with asking for help. Thank you.

Skype has an option to change ports - Better to change Skype.

Tools > Advanced > Connection

Good Luck
