Apache 2.2 on Windows 7 64-bit doesn't start

Postby ERF » 15. August 2011 09:49

Unable to get Apache 2.2 to start using xampp-win32-1.7.4.VC6-installer.exe. Using control panel v3.0.2, I see a message indicating port 80 is use by "system", which is PID 4. No Apache logs (no files, even). I've stopped all my SQL Server services and have added a firewall rule to make sure port 80 is open for TCP. Installation is in C:\xampp. When I run hpptd.exe, cmd.exe flickers by with an error--it's too fast to read. The Control Panel log shows net start "apache2.2" and return code: 0 but the service dies and nothing is posted in the log. I've disabled IIS by turning it off through the control panel. I can't see any other apps/services tying up port 80.

I used the same install file on an older 32-bit Win 7 box and it's working fine--at least when I //localhost I'm getting the welcome screen.

I appreciate all suggestions--thank you!

Well, that would be a problem, wouldn't it???

Use net-stat in the V3 XAMPP Control Panel to see what is going on...

Good luck
