Change directory permissions

I want to set a directory as 777 (needs permission to upload files), but when I'm trying to set it using FileZilla, the server responds with:

Code: Select all

Response:   504 Command not implemented for that parameter

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

You are on Windows, right?
Windows does have a complete different right management system.
No need to set any chmod parameters, because thats *nix world.

Short answer: learn something before you start

On the presumption this server is not "your server" - but a remote host or VPS. I have to ask:

"If you wanted to run Apache, why in the world did you choose a Windows based server and then install XAMPP???"

Accurate answer: File managers can't set Windows permissions. If it is your server, you will need to use Windows Explorer (and have to learn about Windows permissions/rights).

The basic Windows file system permissions are the same in Windows 200/2003/2008 servers, as is the matter of inheritance.

If its a remote server or a local server using Server core mode (text interface), you will need to use your host Control Panel, a Telnet client, or Windows Remote Management. If its a VPS or a full implementation of Windows Server you may be able to run Remote Desktop (if the server allows that).
