Access my site remotely

Access my site remotely

Postby Rainier9 » 04. August 2011 17:32

Greetings to all, I'm in need of some experienced in the topic.
Basically, I want to access my website anywhere I am, as long as there is internet, outside my LAN.

I have Port Forwarded my IP adress to port 80 in my router settings.
I have also allowed access to incoming traffic to port 80 from my firewall settings.

What else should I do?

I hope you have read about the security risks to make your XAMPP accessible from the internet.
I hope you have hardened your XAMPP, otherwise in the next few seconds there is one more Zombie Server in the net.

Forget my hint.
XAMPP für Windows

You can't read forum descriptions, so you don't have any idea about reading anything.
Sorry for that. It's my fault.

That's what i wanted to say.
You don't have enough knowledge and information about how to harden your XAMPP environment to make it ready for the internet (you are far far FAR away from that).

P.S.: And webDAV is just the most known security risk of the current XAMPP version. If you don't know that, you don't know anything.

There is a thread in the english part of the board.
I really don't know why you haven't read it already. It's quite next to your own thread in that forum.

YOU are the only one who can start learning to get all the knowledge you need. Thats nothing someone else can do for you.

Read documentation
read forum threads
use the board search
start learning from scratch

maybe, in some month you are ready and safe enough to use a XAMPP in internet environment. But today, i don't think so.

So basically I can have access to my website if I use a Zen Server?

I just need to run a PHP website without any SQL features or whatever. Will I be able to that with a Zen Server?

Well, if you ask me...

Zend (with D!) Server is a good thing, but it requires some knowledge about all the stuff too, which i don't think you already have.
Thats no solution to prevent learning!

you should search a webhoster for that. The webhoster take care about security, so you don't have to do that on your own.
Thats the right solution for you and just costs a few bucks.

Or how about free hosting?

THanks for answering, but that isnt an option for me.

You see, I'm trying to host the web server myself because I'll be adding some functions of the PHP page to an Arduino Electronic Microcontroller, which is something I actually know about ;)

If I buy a host, I wont be able to connect it directly into the machine the server is, and the PHP function (or form!) woudln't reach my Arduino Microcontroller.

Then the second option to have security is:
don't let your XAMPP listening to the internet.
Why do you think that is needed for you?
or is it just nice to have?

You mean what I actually want to do with the server?

I would be able to control practically anything from the Web, let it be a garage door, a light bulb, a camara and even my car's door.

After I'm done with security, what should I do to be able to access my site over the internet?
