Detailed info on installing ImageMagick ?

I used searched and found a few topics discussing the installation of ImageMagick. Unfortunately I didn't make sense of any of it.

Could it be possible for someone to explain in detail exactly how I install it? What files do I use, where do I put them and what files to I need to change??

Many Thanks. I have no idea how to install a PHP Extension. Except from removing the ';' in the php.ini to enable cURL.
