change mysql data location?

Postby fael097 » 10. July 2011 16:32

Hi, I'm currently storing my htdocs folder in my dropbox, so whatever changes in make in my home computer, I'll get on work, and the other way around too.

but I always have to export my DB and import back, so I was wondering, how to relocate my databases to a different folder?

I tried changing lines in the my.ini mysql config file, but it caused phpmyadmin not to start.

any help is appreciated, thanks!

A. When you were attempting to change the MySQL data folder, were you able to use the MySQL monitor to access the database(s)???? (also known as CLI or mysql.exe)

you might want to look at this:
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/ ... oting.html

good luck
:)

yes, I was, everything *appeared* to be working, my sites were accessing DB and stuff.

but i couldnt open phpmyadmin. many errors everywhere.

should I configure phpmyadmin somehow to access the new folder?

Since MySQL seemed to be OK, my 'guess' would be, "it sure seems so".

it would be pretty useful to try to interpret those errors as a starting point.

I'd suggest looking at the very extensive docs on the phpMyAdmin site.

http://www.phpmyadmin.net/documentation/#config

Good Luck

Last thought - you did restart everything after the changes???
