Apache server running, localhost not working

Postby PalPES » 23. March 2011 05:44

general - Apache server started - Localhost not working

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi,

Have issues with Apache server...
Installed Apache httpd 2.2.17 version using msi file on Windows 7 - worked successfully. On installation of PHP 5.3.5 using msi file, was not able to access localhost - errors in server start - apache start gave - "Starting the Apache2.2 service
(OS 5)Access is denied. : Apache2.2: Failed to open the service." error. Run as adminstrator for Apache start - gives - "Starting the Apache2.2 service
The Apache2.2 service is running.
] Apache/2.2.17 (Win32) PHP/5.3.5 configured -- resuming normal operations

But, in IE, http://localhost does not work... Have changed/uncommented localhost 127.0.0.1 in hosts file in etc folder.. checked with http://localhost:85 also.. With no use.. Can you please tell what could have gone wrong?

Hi,

please check this with telnet

# telnet localhost 85
When the apache not run you have a connection-error.
When apache runs you get a black screen. Put the word "get" and press return -> a html-text appears and the telnet-session where closed.

Please reports your results.

A handy free app. tool to see what ports are in use and what is using them can be downloaded from here:
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/cports.html

The CurrPorts app does not need installing and so can be run even from a portable device.
Very handy when you get conflicts with Apache ports.

The above web site has many free useful utilities that may also come in handy.

Best wishes.

Hi, everyone. When I use UniController to start Apache, I get a pop-up message that says "server is running! please visit localhost:<port>", but I also get another pop-up message that says "Apache HTTP server has stopped working", while the web browser tries unsuccessfully to load the home page. I changed the port several times in the httpd.conf file and I still can't get Apache to come up on my browser, even though UniController reports that the server is running. Apache was working until a few days ago, so I really don't know what went wrong. Can anyone help me please?? Any suggestions would be much appreciated :D
