XAMPP 1.7.4 giving problems.

Postby eurolite » 20. February 2011 10:36

I just installed XAMPP 1.7.4 on my Windows 7 64-bit PC. I previously had 1.7.3, and I never updated before. I didn't see an updater, so I just install 1.7.4 over 1.7.3. Now when I went on to open the control panel I got an error:
XAMPP Component Status Check Failure [-2].
Current directory: c:\xampp
Run this program only from your root XAMPP directory.

So, like the last sentence said, I went into c:\xampp and ran the cp from there. Same error. If i tried clicking start or stop the mini-console says it started, but the buttons don't change. If I use the bat files in the root directory, it says the .exe's for apache and myswl aren't found, but if I navigate to their respective directories, they are there. I also tried restarting my pc.

What do I do? I can't even backup my mysql databases because the services cant even start.

Did you backup your own data before?

I realize that now, and no offense but your posts haven't been very helpful so far.

if I where you I would have a look to: xampp_dir/mysql_data/ and save the databases (if they where there) if not: shit happens

If you find your databases, I wold save them first.
delete complete xampp folder after unswitching services
install xampp 1.7.3 and when it works, copying data to mysql folder.

you can install xampp 174 in another folder an work with both

... just an idea

Yeah I already fixed it. I managed to save the datatbases and the htdocs. I uninstalled 1.7.4, and reinstalled it. I guess installing a newer version over and older isn't a good idea.

I still get the error for the control panel, but I ignore it and everything works fine. I also noticed for 1.7.4 the control panel version is older, but about 2 years. Whats up with that?

It seems that problems with 1.7.4 on a win 7 64 bit machine are wide-spread if not universal. To facilitate a solution, I would gladly give the developers RDC access to my win 7 pro 64 bit machine. The machine contains only a broken version of 1.7.4. Contact “milo at eckles dot us” for acces. thanks
