[RESOLVED]Port 3306 Already in use! New install, newbie

After installing XAMPP I received a 'Port 3306 already in use! Installing MySQL service failed!' dialog.

The XAMPP control panel offers no apparent way to change ports, etc.

Installed in WinXP Pro SP2. What's my next step in solving this?

Will this port error prevent my VB/MySQ app from running?

I found that I had a version of MySQL 5.1 server installed and running as a service.
Removed it.
Restarted XAMPP. All ok now mysql using 3306 now in xampp display.
