Check out this link for the next XAMPP For Windows release which is currently at 1.7.4 beta 4 stage:
http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp-beta.html

It has MySQL 5.5.8 included and if you don't mind using a beta version then feel free to download and use it, but if you have any issues with it then please use the Feedback form on the above page not here in these forums.

Good luck.

There is no time schedule set or any particular component issue that effects WHEN to release a new version.

Only when it is stable enough to completely satisfy the developers will it be released.

So keep your eye on the above beta page and also this page:
http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp-windows.html
Or this forum sometimes has new version release info:

Yes.

lse123 wrote:data/settings remain intact?
No.

You must backup (save) your data and any of your own files you wish to keep before uninstalling the beta version...

...because part of the uninstall procedure requires you delete the xampp beta folder and create a new one when you install the new stable version.

actual beta release for Windows is now beta 5.

lse123 wrote:do you know about when get staple/std release?

Nobody knows that. It will be released if the developers think that it is stable enough. It's done when it's done.

lse123 wrote:when install beta and install eg Tomcat, JBoss etc require database, and after needed uninstall for, staple installation install, this has any impact on these programs and servers used beta xampp, mysql?

Sure. If you uninstall xampp beta because there won't be a upgrade package for it, your databases will be affected.
But you can export your databases and reimport them after install the stable release.
Or, just copy your mysql\data folder somewhere before you uninstall it. This should work just fine, especially if the mysql version doesn't change between beta and stable.

You may want to stick with 1.7.3 after reading and understanding this topic:
viewtopic.php?f=16&t=44327
Feel free to add your comments (vent your spleen) in the above topic. :)

There will be no Tomcat button in this 1.7.4 release XAMPP Control Panel and for possible reasons please read this topic:
viewtopic.php?f=16&t=44312

Some XAMPP 1.7.4 Tomcat help reading here:
viewtopic.php?f=16&t=44313

Best wishes.

All the included software in XAMPP is free for Development, as well as for Production?

You mean by this Tomcat installation no need JAVA MYSQL DRIVER installation, like you do if you install separately?

The developers specifically warn against using XAMPP for production environments, don't you believe them?
