Problem with browser finding files

Postby robrat123 » 28. January 2011 18:09

Hi there,

I've recently been using Xampp on a PHP Course I went on off-site. When working with Xampp I was editing files in Dreamweaver and previewing them, going straight to the file. On my install here at work I can't get to the files without manually changing the URL.
THe problem is this. When I preview I get this link up:
file:///Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/htdocs/rob/index.php

That simply tries to download the file. If I edit the filepath to:
http://localhost/rob/index.php

Then it works. Basically, why is Xampp not stripping out all of the /applications/XAMPP etc. stuff and not replacing it with localhost?

The problem here is that Dreamweaver does not know it should go to http://localhost/rob/index.php. The file is located at /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/htdocs/rob/index.php, so Dreamweaver chooses that path to preview the file. I don't use Dreamweaver, so I'm not sure if you could configure Dreamweaver to visit http://localhost/rob/index.php instead of /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/htdocs/rob/index.php. I know it has a feature to manage sites, maybe you should look into that direction.
