after instalation problem

First well im new using xampp in linux
following the steps in the link http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp-linux.html
the step 1, 2, 3 is done without problems, but in the step 4 TEST i put in my browser http://localhost/ and say

It works!

This is the default web page for this server.

The web server software is running but no content has been added, yet.

and too http://localhost/xampp/index.php

Not Found

The requested URL /xampp/index.php was not found on this server.
Apache/2.2.14 (Ubuntu) Server at localhost Port 80

if I'm following the steps of the installation, which is what I need to do, thx for your time. Regards

I assume you are on either Lucid Lynx or Meerkat. So elsewhere in this forum, this was asked and answered. But you need to turn off the existing apache2/httpd process first.

>service Apache2 stop is the command to enter in the console. You should also be in su mode.

Then try localhost again.
